A LAND DIVIDED
A LAND DIVIDED
The United States is often described as a land of opportunity, but it is also a country with deep divisions. People can live in the same nation, follow the same laws, and still experience life in very different ways.
Some of these divisions come from history. Others are connected to ideas, opinions, and ways of thinking today. To understand the United States, it is important to look at both the past and the present.
In this part of the unit, we will explore why the USA is sometimes called “a land divided.” We will learn about slavery and segregation, the fight for civil rights, and how history has shaped different views in society. We will also look at how people can think differently about politics and how media influences what we believe is true.
The goal is not to decide who is right or wrong.
The goal is to understand why people see the same country differently.
In the assignment Survival, you will work with the following:
Historical divisions
