FINAL TASK

Prepare Your Cheat Sheet

Before the final Animal Farm writing task, you will have 20–30 minutes in class to prepare a cheat sheet.

You may use your Animal Farm booklet and your earlier work while creating it.

Your cheat sheet should help you remember the novella when you later write your final essay in Exam.net.

You may include:

  • Important characters – who they are and why they matter
  • Important events – major moments in the story
  • Changes on Animal Farm – what changes from the beginning to the end
  • Power and leadership – who has power and how it is used
  • Propaganda – examples of slogans, speeches, statistics, fear or changed information
  • Big ideas and themes – for example equality, freedom, loyalty, democracy and corruption
  • Useful evidence – scenes or events you may want to refer to
  • Orwell’s message – ideas about what you think Orwell wants readers to understand

Three Questions to Help You

When choosing what to write down, ask yourself:

What happened?
Why was it important?
What does it tell us about the characters, Animal Farm or one of the big ideas?

Rules

Your cheat sheet must be:

  • one A4 page

  • handwritten

  • one side only

  • made during the lesson

  • written using keywords, short notes and examples

Do not write an essay in advance.

At the end of the lesson, you will hand in your cheat sheet. You will receive it back when you complete the final writing task in Exam.net.

Remember

You do not need to memorise exact quotations. What matters is that you can remember important examples from the novella and explain why they matter.
